Responsibilities:
The Senior Linux System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations and monitoring of the companies various internal and production online Linux servers. As part of a team, the Systems Administrator will provide the support and maintenance for various projects, assisting in the optimization and automation of the standard administration functions.
Key daily tasks includes:
— Configure, install, maintain, tune and document primarily Linux-based environments
— Monitor and maintain server security
— Work with developers to find solutions to complex problems involving server performance and configuration
— Apply patches and updates as needed
— Escalation of any failings or shortfalls by any service providers
— Assist in evaluating and recommending technology and 3rd party solutions
— Provide support during peak traffic periods as required by the business and possibly provide on-call after hours support as needed

Requirements:
— Ability to work on Linux administration in a demanding environment
— College/Technical degree in computer science or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree an asset
— Excellent knowledge of LAMP server installation, configuration and optimization
— Good understanding of core Internet protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP etc)
— Experience with Perl, PHP and Bash shell scripting (or similar)
— Experience administering MySQL database servers
— Understanding of load balancing technologies is a plus
— Ability to perform tuning of systems for running web and database servers is an asset
— Detail-oriented and manage time effectively
— Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to deal with changing priorities
— Works effectively as a member of a team as well as independently
