Rejoignez nous pour une projection de «Cut: Slicing Through the Myths of Circumcision», un documentaire de 70 minutes, suivi d’une discussion avec le réalisateur Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon afin d’analyser sans égards l’éthique de la circoncision masculine infantile au sein de la société contemporaine et du Judaïsme.
Le film sera projeté au «Greene Avenue Community Centre» le mardi 4 octobre 2011, à 19h.

Le directeur du film, Eliyahu Ungar-Saragon, fils d’une famille juive orthodoxe, a commencé à remettre en question la circoncision quand il eut la responsabilité, lors de son adolescence, de tenir un bébé pour son Brit Milah (cérémonie religieuse de la circoncision chez
les juifs). Cet évènement le marqua tellement qu’il décida plus tard d’abandonner son école de médecine pour se tourner vers le cinéma.
Eliyahu sera présent à notre projection de Cut — Le Film et aura une discussion avec Maurene White [I SUPPOSE ELI IS A MISTAKE ?], une infirmière diplômée à la retraite. Nous espérons trouver un rabbin qui aimerait se joindre au débat ! The 70 minute film takes a critical look at the usually unquestioned practice of infant circumcision from a Jewish perspective. We used to sacrifice virgins, we used to burn witches at the stake…out of 613 Jewish laws, is THE ONE to circumcise your innocent little baby really THAT important? Or is it time to admit that circumcision is barbaric, medically unnecessary, excruciatingly painful, risky, unnecessary cosmetic surgery that is a gross violation of your son’s human rights to bodily integrity?

The director of the movie, Eliyahu Ungar-Saragon, son of an Orthodox Jewish family, started to question circumcision when he had the duty of holding an infant for his bris milah (religious cutting ceremony) as a teenager. This event marked Eli so much that he later he dropped out of medical school to turn to cinema.
Eliyahu will be PRESENT at our screening of Cut-The Film and will have a discussion panel with Eli and Maurene White, a retired registered nurse. Hopefully, we will find a rabbi who would like to join the debate!(If you know a rabbi who may be interested, pleasehave him contact us at circoncision@hotmail.ca as soon as possible.)
The Whole Network (http://www.thewholenetwork.org/) is helping to coordinate and organize the North American tour of the film Cut: Slicing Through the Myths of Circumcision (http://www.thewholenetwork.org/the-cut-tour.html). The tour will take the film and the film maker, Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon, to over 30 cities across the North America. The SCREENING OF THE FILM ON OCTOBER 4, 2011 is FREE.
