Видела множество полицейский машин 17 августа на Квин Мэри, Тв и так далее. Часть сноудона была перекрыта. Потом в Газетт прочла репортаж и обалдела. Чувак со странностями просто сидел в своей квартире и его приехали брать 20 машин и Сват? Ну и ну. Что скажете?

Police remove a man who barricaded himself in his apartment along with his female roommate for most of the day Tuesday.Photograph by: John Kenney, John Kenney / THE GAZETTEMONTREAL — People trying to get into their apartments and homes on Queen Mary Rd. were frustrated yesterday by a police operation that lasted nearly all day.

The street was lined with fire trucks, an ambulance, police cars and a command centre after a man in his 30s barricaded himself in his basement apartment on the corner of Queen Mary Rd. and Macdonald Ave.

The man had locked himself in with his female roommate at about 8 a.m. yesterday.

The woman, who was not held hostage at any point, was cooperative with police throughout the incident and encouraged the man to give himself up to authorities, said Montreal police Constable Yannick Paradis. Contrary to earlier reports from police and witnesses, the woman is not pregnant.

The SWAT team arrived at the apartment at around 10 a.m. Firefighters followed when he threatened to start a fire in the building.

«I went out to the depanneur and when I came back I saw SWAT members, firemen, a lot of cops surrounding the building,» said a witness who lives in the same apartment complex.

After a long standoff, the man was taken out of his apartment on a stretcher and placed in the back of a police car at about 4 p.m.

The woman also was safely removed from the apartment and was taken in for questioning.

«Everyone is safe, no one was injured,» said Montreal police Constable Jacques Chales.

The man turned himself in without resistance, Paradis said. He added the man spent last night in a detention centre and is expected to appear in court today, where it’s likely a psychological evaluation will be requested.

The man is known to police in the Cote des Neiges borough.

Robert Viddier, the superintendent of the building, said the man has had other incidents in recent months.

«The guy is really sick,» Viddier said. «There have been several problems with him in the neighbourhood.»

According to police and the man’s neighbours, a similar incident occurred two weeks ago. «He needs some kind of long-term help, we always see him walking without shoes outside and other strange behaviour,» Viddier said.

A large perimeter was established by police during the incident. Streets reopened at about 5 p.m. yesterday evening.
