Job Purpose:
The electronic designer will work within our trackside systems engineering group to design and develop customized electrical and electro-mechanical solutions for the global railway market. The individual will be involved in all phases of development from concept, design, verification, validation, manufacture, and systems implementation.
Strong leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, together with hands on electronic aptitude, and an analytical and detail oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities:
•Conceive embedded electronic hardware and firmware for new products
•Initiate product enhancement review for continuous improvement
•Develop design/component specifications and/or manufacturing drawings for internal/external suppliers
•Provide technical support to sales, customer service, field service, and field applications groups
•Co-ordinate field testing of new products and prototypes
•Provide regular project updates
•Evaluate field failures and implement corrective measures
•Participates in the write up of projects for R&D purposes
•Accountable for ensuring all key project work is written up in a satisfactory technical report and appropriately filed
•Accountable for ensuring all work (drawings, reports, experiments) is properly documented and stored (EPDM, lab books, SVN, etc)
•Other related duties as required or assigned
Skills, Experience and Education:
• Bachelor degree in Electrical engineering or equivalent
• At least 5 years working in design engineering environment in embedded electronics
• Experienced C programmer of small embedded systems with PIC, ATMEL, ARM or other MCU chip
• Experience with Schematics and PCB design by using Cadence v14-16 OrCAD / Allegro
• Experience with digital and analog circuits
• Experience with Automotive and Industrial Electronic solutions
• Prototyping and diagnostic skills
• Understanding of PCBA manufacturing process
• Background in railroad industry would be an asset
• Documented successes in the field of product development
• Track record of out of the box or innovative thinking in problem solving
