Storage / Disaster Recovery Administrator

Job Responsibilities:

General:

The Storage Administrator’s role is to plan, design, and analyze the organization’s storage infrastructure according to best practices, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. The Storage Administrator is also responsible for capacity planning, backup and restore process design, performance analysis, and developing data disaster recovery plans.
This includes designing and implementing disaster recovery processes and business continuity procedures for re-establishing servers, databases, and operating systems in the event of a disruption, both minor and catastrophic. This person will also perform and analyze disaster simulations for the prompt restoration of services, and conduct security audits where required.

Specific Responsibilities

• Install and configure storage devices and corresponding software.
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with storage devices, storage access, and data retrieval.
• Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT storage team.
• Design and implement tools and processes to proactively monitor and ensure data availability, optimal access performance, and data security
• Implement systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets.
• Define, communicate, and ensure adherence to data storage retention policies.
• Develop and establish disaster recovery procedures for the restoration of mission-critical business applications in the event of system outages or failures.
• Ensure that company equipment, systems, services, and facility are compliant with disaster recovery plans and procedures.
• Continually conduct simulations and test runs of system disruptions in order to revise and perfect plans.
• Play a key role in the definition and design of data management policies, processes, and storage solutions for our enterprise. Specifically, this includes backup, replication, retention, archival, data access security, disaster recovery, and high availability..
• Maintain detailed data management documentation.
• Work with vendors and our purchasers to procure appropriate products and services.
• Stay on top of storage technology advancements in order to provide recommendations for the ongoing improvements to our storage systems.

Requirements:

• College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 3 years equivalent work experience.
• Hands-on [Fibre Channel, iSCSI,…] IBM SAN troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with tape/disk drives and Tivoli Storage Manager backup and restore technologies.
• Linux and MS Windows system administration experience required.
• Excellent communications skills (oral and written)
• High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail
